Over the last couple of years Kent Area and some of our Groups have received repeated pleas from beekeepers in Kent asking us to help spot the dreaded Asian Hornet and report sightings to the authorities so that action can be taken to exterminate them. This invasive, non-native species has been on the march across Europe and nests have been found in Kent and Sussex. It represents a major threat to honey bees.
The illustration shows how to distinguish the enemy from the beneficial European Hornet, principally by its yellow legs and only one segment of the abdomen, the fourth, being yellow.
Report sightings through the Asian Hornet Watch app or at www.bit.ly/asianhornetreport
