# Your Host Group — Bromley

Bromley Group has seen an increase in membership in the year: at the end of September we had 590 registered members. However, we are not seeing this converted into walk leaders or committee members, which is a great pity, and a worry.

Having said that, our walk leaders have managed to put on 153 walks this year. These walks have covered all areas around Bromley, and Kent and more recently into London. A recent walk from London Bridge station explored the history of the Great Plague of 1665 and the 3 Great Fires, so not only a walking experience but a history lesson as well! Also coming up in mid-December is our very popular Christmas lights walk.

In March with the help of The Red Cross we ran a First Aid course, to provide some basic training for our walk leaders and members. The course was a great success and felt to be very useful. We will consider arranging a further course next year.

We have tried to keep our members abreast of all the new proposals from Central Office, in particular the New Walk Leader Requirements and to that end we put together and sent out our first newsletter in July. The newsletter together with giving details of the new requirements also highlighted what we have been doing locally. In addition, it provided a lovely report of the Bromley Ramblers holiday in May to Church Stretton.

Later in the year a group of Bromley Ramblers had a very successful holiday in Italy, which included an encounter with a bear and its cubs during one of the walks. We are hoping for a report on that holiday for our winter Newsletter.

We held a well-attended AGM on the 2nd of November; our guest speaker was Counsellor Will Rowlands, who certainly engaged the group on his thoughts on the future of Bromley.

After many delays we installed our first replacement parish footpath map in September. The before and after photographs are of a board in East Malling near the church. We hope to install many more maps in 2026.
