Appledore
The length of this walk has changed due to hot weather conditions.
Meet in Appledore Village Hall free car park, The Street, Appledore.
The route will be shorter - 5.8 miles instead of 8 miles and will stick to shadier paths for much of the way. It will be essential for walkers to use sun protection lotion and to wear a sunhat - and you MUST bring plenty of water (one small 500ml bottle is NOT enough! - I will carry at least 2 litres for my own use.) Expected finish time will now be around 13.30.
We will, however, still visit the church of St Mary the Virgin in Stone in Oxney where there is an ancient Roman altar - thought to be a relic of the Roman cult of Mithras. We will return to Appledore along the Royal Military Canal Path, which is well shaded.
Refreshments are available at the end of the walk – pub or tea room.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome, but you may need to lift them over some stiles.
