Bird sanctuary and Candy Floss - (KCIIIECP celebration walk)

Our walk is on the eastern end of the Isle of Sheppey, starting just east of the town of Leysdown on Sea. Leysdown is known for its beach and the many Holiday Parks nearby.

Leaving the car park we head south east following the Charles 3rd English Coastal Path towards the Hamlet of Shell Ness. Just short of Shell Ness the Coastal Path turns south west, parallel with The Swale and through the RSPB Reserve.

The path then turns inland and we follow it to a small church, St Thomas the Apostle circ 1089, claimed to be the most remote in Kent. This will be the lunch stop.

After lunch we follow the path passing The Ferry House Inn (16th cent) now a Wedding and Event Venue (Kent Wedding Venue of the year 2025). We then reach the former landing point for the old ferry with views across to Oare Creek and the near bye RSPB sanctuary.

Retracing our steps back to the church, we turn north along bridleways and some roads to the RSPB Capel Fleet Raptor Viewpoint. Moving on we cross part of Leysdown Marshes and a couple of large fields before arriving on the outskirts of Leysdown.

Rejoining the Coastal Path we follow it past Holiday Parks into the centre of Leysdown where you can try to win a prize on the many machines or buy candy floss. We then follow the path back to the start.
