Harrietsham Walk
This is a superb 12-mile walk from Harrietsham that utilises the North Downs Way and waymarked trails through the chalk grasslands of Woodland Trust's Hucking Estate, from where down-top vistas sail for miles across the Garden of England.
The walk starts gently as we make our way past Harrietsham School and the Trout Farm, before crossing some rare Kent stepping stones to rise slightly through Whiteshark Vineyard, as we proceed to the North Downs Way and into Hollingbourne. Next up the climb becomes steady and at times steep, as we proceed above Eden's Hole and into the Hucking Estate, where we will take a short snack break, before a pub stop at the Hook & Hatchet. Once we reach the pub, then most of the ascent of over 1000 feet on the walk has been completed! Once we can tear ourselves away from the secluded hostelry, we enter once more the Hucking Estate to pass through Smokes Wood, to then descend and re-join the North Downs Way for much of the remainder of the walk.
This walk is suitable for those capable of the distance and ascent.
