Hythe

Hythe

Start from the Portland Road Car Park next to The Green, Hythe (behind the former Duke’s Head pub).  There is usually a charge to park here. The car park has a height restriction. The start point is close to Red Lion Square which is served by frequent buses to/from Ashford, Folkestone, Dymchurch and Canterbury. Park either in the pay to park car park – or lots of free parking nearby on the A259 either side of the Royal Military Canal.

We’ll climb steadily but not too steeply out of Hythe, passing Brockhill Country Park before reaching Pedlinge.  Our route then is via woods and then across the A20 to reach the old Roman Road at Westenhanger and the continuing northwards to Stanford.  From here, we’ll head eastwards to reach  Postling and the foot of Tolsford Hill at Tolsford Plantation.  We’ll follow the trackway along the flanks of Tolsford Hill before turning south to Saltwood and then back to Hythe via a series of quiet paths and roads.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome – but there may be stiles along the way which are not dog-friendly and we are likely to encounter livestock in a number of places.

Please bring plenty to drink and  a packed lunch as there are no refreshment opportunities along the way.

Estimated return time is 14.30 to 15.00
