The High Weald Landscape Trail is one of the two finest long distance paths passing through Kent (the other is the Wealdway). 90 miles (145 kilometres) long, it crosses the High Weald from Horsham in the west to Rye in the east. In contrast the Wealdway runs south to north across the Weald.
The trail winds its way across traditional English countryside of woodland, orchards, meadows and cornfields. It passes through delightful villages whose buildings reflect the locally available materials - brick and tile, weatherboarding, timber frames and Wealden sandstone. The many furnace and hammer ponds bear testimony to the long-gone iron industry. A wonderful walk that feels surprisingly remote in places.
