In contrast the Wealdway runs south to north across the Weald.\n\nThe trail winds its way across traditional English countryside of woodland, orchards, meadows and cornfields.  It passes through delightful villages whose buildings reflect the locally available materials - brick and tile, weatherboarding, timber frames and Wealden sandstone.  The many furnace and hammer ponds bear testimony to the long-gone iron industry.
