Chalybeate springs are common on the \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tsandstones around here, water containing supposedly \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\thealth-giving iron salts emerging where the porous \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tsandstone meets the clays below.  The best known is in \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tthe Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells but the brown sludge \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\toozing from this spring looks most unappetising.\n\n### Groombridge Place\n\n![](https://www.kentramblers.org.uk/KentWalks/public/images/P133b.jpg)\n\nThe present house was built in 1662 with the help of \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tSir Christopher Wren.  Diarist and horticulturist \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tJohn Evelyn helped with the garden.
