At its north end the green is \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\toverlooked by the elegant Matfield House, built in 1728 \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tin the Queen Anne style. The fine stable block is \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\ttopped by a splendid clock tower bearing the advice to \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t'mind the time'.\nThere are many other fine \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tweatherboarded and tile-hung houses around the green and \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\ta pub at each end. The sports pavilion was \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tfinished in 2014 after its predecessor was destroyed by \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tfire.The name derives from 'Matta feld' ' the large \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tclearing farmed by Matta.\n\n### Pembury Old Church\n\nAdjacent to Kent College and quite some way from \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tPembury which also has a newer church, old St Peter's \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\twas mainly built by John Colepepper of Bayhall in 1337 \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\talthough some parts may date back to 1147 or earlier.\n\n### Kent College\n\nKent College is an independent day and boarding school \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tfor girls.\n\n### Cinderhill Wood\n\nCinderhill Community Woodland consists of both \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\twoodland and heathland – an increasingly rare \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\thabitat in Kent. During the summer of 2021 the \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\theathland was grazed by Jacob sheep to help prevent the \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\theathland becoming scrub and eventually woodland. \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe site is looked after by the Kent High Weald \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tPartnership with the help of volunteers.
