The estate used to have a large dairy \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\therd but this was unprofitable and has gone.\n\n### Ide Hill\n\nThis pleasant village was first mentioned in records in \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t1258, although its then name Edythshyll is of Saxon \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\torigin suggesting that the village pre-dated the Norman \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tconquest. The village had no church until one was \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tbuilt in 1807 and replaced with the present St Mary's \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tchurch in 1865. It seems that no one from the \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tvillage has ever made their mark on history.
