Wendy D's Walthamstow Wetlands to Limehouse Station Linear Walk

The walk starts from Tottenham Hale Station at the later than usual time of 11 am.   It crosses Walthamstow Wetlands, a large internationally recognised nature reserve adjacent to the River Lea, passing Markfield Beam Engine and the Lee Valley Ice Centre; then on to Hackney Bridge for a lunch stop next to the canal.  The walk follows the Lee Navigation which unlike the other canals is a canalised river, not a completely new canal; it was used to transport grain for beer and bread making.  The second half of the walk passes Three Mills Island, home to the world's largest surviving tidal mill, now Grade 1 listed and where there have been mills since Saxon times.   Much of the walk is along towpaths, passing barges and working locks. The walk ends at Limehouse Station.

If you can, please RSVP to this walk via our Meetup site. This will give our volunteer walk leaders an idea of how many are attending.
