The parishes listed below are without Parish Footpath Observers (PFOs) who are the first line of defence in the continuing struggle to keep our footpath network open to all. This they do by monitoring the condition of the paths in their parishes and by reporting any issues encountered.

Area Footpath Maintenance Officer

Financial constraints on highway authorities mean that they cannot always keep up with all necessary path maintenance work, especially vegetation clearance. It has become clear that if we wish to enjoy well maintained paths we need to contribute and so Groups across the country organise maintenance teams to tackle this work. Ideally every Group in Kent would have a maintenance team.

The job of the Area Footpath Maintenance Officer is to provide encouragement and support for the setting up and operation of such teams, particularly liaison with highway authorities over the allocation of work, limitations on tasks to be undertaken, training for use of tools, insurance and safety.
